14-Year-Old Boy Pinned to Ground by Police for his “Dehumanizing Stare.”

Via on Jul 3, 2013

I have two sons, so this hit home.

This is what an abuse of power looks like—supposed body language, accusations of a “dehumanizing” stare, criminalizing a 14-year old child because you’re too proud to admit you were in the wrong.

Tremaine could be my son, Tremaine could be your son.

Sara Crolick is whiskey in a teacup. She loves elephants, vegetables, vintage typewriters, Audrey Hepburn and the written word, but not necessarily in that order. She raises two inspiring boys with her mister, who is a bona fide music-maker; this works out nicely, as she happens to also love music. These police officers need to be charged for assault, and need to go through some serious therapy.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Seems incredibly sensationalized. I understand the outrage and upset that could come from such an interaction, and thank God it wasn't worse. From the limited info, it does seem that this was excessive and the police overreacted.
But in a broader view, I personally would find it refreshing if the narrative became how the boy and the police were exposed to some awareness training. How we can all learn from this and not continue the us against them, fear based logic that has poisoned mankind for ages… Someone is wrong, someone must be punished. What about understanding, compassion and ultimately intelligence? How did this happen. What is the lesson in this? What can we do to make this a world where this no longer exists?
