Gratitude.

Atlanta area yoga instructor and artist Scott Schroeder started this detailed rendering of the classical yoga sage Patanjali in February 2013. His intention was to give it in March as a gift to his yoga teacher who was celebrating her 30th anniversary of teaching.

The drawing wasn’t completed until the end of June, after nearly 300 hours and a lot of patience and perseverance. It was drawn entirely in pencil, then inked over, much the way comic book artists work.

Schroeder says he always thought descriptions of Patanjali sounded supernatural and superhero-like, and wanted to render him almost entirely from imagination, incorporating a layer of fantasy within the more traditional Indian interpretations.
