“Why Louis CK doesn’t buy phones for his Children.”{Video}

“Louis C.K.’s Girls Can’t Have Cell Phones.”

Amazing for a comedian to talk about that nervousness and fear and sadness and then true joy—in a way folks can hear and enjoy.

“We are threatened by the now so we jump to the past or the future.” ~ Chogyam Trungpa

I’m starting to think Louis CK is just straight up Buddhist. Chogyam Trungpa (his meditation instruction, linked below under “appreciate”) has talked about all of this eloquently: how our everyday nervousness masks fear, and is masked in turn by speediness, a lack of human connection, an inability to do nothing, fully, and just be human. if we can be present, and let hot boredom relax to cool boredom, we feel “the genuine heart of sadness.” And from that, we can begin to finally, truly, fully, madly, deeply appreciate our life. And from that, we can smile.

As my favorite Buddhist quote goes, if we can feel sadness and pain of suffering and at the same time the vision and brilliance of fundamental goodness, we can live life properly (to paraphrase, actual quote here).

Problem:

Speediness, which leads to lack of caring about small and large things, both, and lack of kindness to ourselves and others, and aggression.

Solution: whenever we have a gap of boringness, enjoy it instead of filling it, and we’ll soon get through the hot boredom to what Trungpa Rinpoche called “cool boredom”–boredom that is relaxing, pleasant.

Or, as Louis CK described it…
