2013 also marked the 37th consecutive year with a global temperature above the 20th century average.
Or, as I imagine my great, great grandmother saying, “It was a doozy!”
According to NOAA’s National Climate Data Center:
The last below-average annual temperature was 1976. Including 2013, all 13 years of the 21st century (2001-2013) rank among the 15 warmest in the 134-year period of record. The three warmest years on record are 2010, 2005, and 1998 (since record keeping began in 1880).
If you find these stats hard to fathom because, like me, you’ve been struggling to pull up your winter survival boot-straps during the onslaught of 2014 sub-zero temperatures, watch this video that shows how global temperatures have risen from 1950 through the end of 2013. :
To counteract the terror of that video, I suggest you read my latest post about how to overcome the winter blues here.
Want to learn more about how global warming can possibly exist despite the latest series of Polar Vortexes, Arctic Boundary Fronts, Frigid Monster Icy Grips and Frozen Tundra Relapses? Watch videos I posted here.
Then for a laugh, courtesy Stephen Colbert and “noted climatologist Donald Trump,” watch this video.
