Have Expectations. ~ Janne Robinson

Warning: Naughty Language ahead!

When I read these quotes, I hear voices from people who are willing to play small before they are willing to play big.

“Look. I have a strategy. Why expect anything? If you don’t expect anything, you don’t get disappointed.”

~ Patricia McCormick

“I’m not in this world to live up to your expectations and you’re not in this world to live up to mine.”

~ Bruce Lee

“If you expect nothing from anybody, you’re never disappointed.”

~ Sylvia Plath

“I find my life is a lot easier the lower I keep my expectations.”

~ Bill Watterson

Why are expectations so bad? Why do we believe that it is empowering to live and have relationships with no expectations? Doesn’t it seem lethargic to live from a place of no expectation?

Here’s a thought: what if we lived our lives with expectations?

What if we existed from a place of intent and accountability, comprehension, desire and had inextinguishable expectations. What if we felt inclined to ask for and even stubbornly demand what we are worthy of?

What if we woke up each day and strived with all our might towards what we hunger for? What if we entered relationships knowing exactly what we wanted? What if we knew our worth and our needs and went to bat for them?  Not from a place of entitlement but from a understanding and confidence that our desires are realistic, attainable and of significance?

“Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.”

~ Marianne Williamson

The definition of expectation is a strong belief that something will happen or be the case in the future. Hope, confidence, intention, faith, ambition, purpose, conviction, will and trust are synonyms for expectations.

We cannot speak the things into existence which our souls yearn for from a place of no expectation. I implore you to ask for that which you desire, insist upon it relentlessly. It’s so bloody worth it.

So hear me roar world—I have expectations.

It is empowering to ask for the things we need and want for ourselves from each other and the universe.

I will exist hell-bent, full throttle with fearless intent and irrepressible expectations. I will live and love with confidence, intent, faith, ambition, purpose, conviction and trust. I will love with my big girl panties on. I will exist from a place of raw unabashed empowerment, fueled with expectations.

Fuck so-so.

Fuck convenient.

Fuck “for now.”

Fuck comfortable.

I want my soul to be shaken.

I want it to be tossed around until I feel sideways.

Until my heart’s walking around dizzy in circles

and it can’t tell left from right.
