I Am Late Night (And So Can You!)

Nation! The word is out: Stephen Colbert to replace David Letterman on The Late Show!

Now, I’m typically not a connoisseur of the late-night programming, but as a Colbert fan, this is big news!

People are already buzzing about what the show will be like as Colbert as a host—will he stay in character? Will the Colbert Report continue to air?

Word on the street is, Stephen’s contract with Comedy Central is just about up, and the Colbert Report will come to an end when he takes over hosting The Late Show.

I also heard (on the radio this morning) that Colbert will be hosting the late show as himself, and the “Colbert” character will be retired.

Although I am sad  to see the “Colbert” character go away (c’mon… that sh*t was hilarious), it does makes sense. The extremely (mock) right-wing character works brilliantly for the Colbert report on Comedy Central, but wouldn’t really fly well on network TV.

That being said, Stephen Colbert is an intelligent, sharp and witty man who will have an opportunity to take his comedy to the next level. I can’t wait to tune in next year and see what new kinds of antics will ensue with Colbert as a late-night TV host.

So to CBS, you get a “tip of the hat” for the brilliant move of signing up Colbert as David Letterman’s successor. Naysayers get a “wag of the finger” for being unsupportive.

Colbert is gearing up to take his awesomeness to the next level, America!

Hold on to your hats and glasses, ’cause this here’s fixin’ to be a wild ride!

And that’s “The Word.”
