Ode to Spring. {Poem}

flower snow crocus

Today is a day of daffodils
and sweet sorrows

Spring’s fresh greens
and empty reminders

There are irises in bloom
in the front yard

yet endings that can’t be forgotten

Trees share fragile shoots
with their reaching, outstretched limbs

I curl in, retreating again

The promises of spring
are alive and well

encouragement to hearts like mine

Still dancing with the death of winter

Still uncertain about trusting this

new growth and possibility

Still stumbling through
the fog and chilly torments

finding the melody of my new heart song

Looking for signs of you-

of mother

hoping you are still alive

somewhere
within me

Then comes the hooting of an owl

Then comes the gentle breezes
and the rustling of leaves in chorus

Then comes a white egret feather

on my path

Then comes the cleansing rains of spring

filling my eyes

emptying my heart

creating a newer, more gentle space within me

and I open my wings to Ma once more

and surrender my footsteps.
