If There Were No Words. {Poem}

Kerry Elam 33

If there were no words,

Would you gaze into my eyes to see my pain?
If there were no words,
Would you take my hand and squeeze it, letting me know everything will be okay?
If there were no words,
Would you give me a hug and truly feel my heart beating and listen as our breathing syncs as one?
If there were no words,
Would you walk with me in awe of the beauty that surrounds us?
If there were no words,
Would you dine with me savoring each nurturing morsel of food?
If there were no words,
Would you take more time to touch me gently? Feel and explore our bodies and their ultimate needs?
If there were no words,
Would you smile to express joy? Frown to express anger? Cry to let go of suffering?
If there were no words,
What could we let go of to move forward in ease and grace?
What could we feel that words jumble?
What could we experience together?
What new meaning would the present moment hold?
