The Autumn Ride. {Poem}

Autumn Ride photo

Summer slips away as the sunshine becomes a little less each day.

The organic smell of autumn enters my nostrils and rests there.
These are the days I love to ride,
to journey into the woods with my pony
and let the wind direct our steps.

His energy is high, the wind and the crisp coolness
making him alert and fresh.
He stops. His ears prick. I listen.
A deer comes bounding across our path and we stand motionless,
admiring its swift grace.

The deer is gone as quickly as it came,
and we calmly resume our journey.
The autumn woods and weather bring us a peace and a
solitude that can be found nowhere else.
We are happy. We are alone together.
