The Ocean. {Poem}

The Ocean.

Abandoned in crested waves,
I saw you there and noted my luck to find another flung far from the shores.
White sail high, I anchored near you and moored deep within the water.
Though weak, I whispered across blue seas, but alas you did not hear me.
Turning rosy cheek away, burned dark from constant sunlight, my words fell on deaf ears.
I saw your face for what it was, dull and lifeless.
Your boat abandoned and rotten by constant wear.
My hopes dashed; I saw my fate reflected
and watched you succumb to stealthy riptides.
The sun shone bright on calm ocean, and lit up the sapphire waves.
You sunk. Long gone, I could not tell if you were a mirage
when I desperately hoped for more.
As the sky turned grey, I saw around me a million white sails
dotted on blue currents and purple skylines.
I waved and waved, but no one answered. Then I realised —
who could help me? All of us, sinking slowly.
Trapped together, the ocean swallowed us whole.
Our bodies trapped underneath the waves,
but on the surface, we are long gone.
