Taking Inspired Action Toward Getting the Things We Want.

apple bucket
Ten years ago, one of my soul mates introduced me to The Secret.

We watched the movie together huddled up on his little loveseat with his pup at our feet. I remember being intrigued that a simple thought could be so powerful. It was the first time I was exposed to these kinds of theories.

When the movie was over, I felt refreshed and alive. But when I started doing the steps, nothing happened. So I gave up. For many years, I thought the Law of Attraction was a load of crap. Until I started seeing it unfold in my life.

Unfortunately, I was attracting all the things I didn’t want. Toxic relationships, bad jobs, horrible friends. I fed off the drama for many years. I thought that was life. I became a complete zombie, existing. I ended up losing everything and had to rediscover myself.

I started reading. A lot. And somehow found my way back to The Secret and other Law of Attraction books. I started digging deeper. We don’t have to believe in the Law of Attraction in order for it to work. It just does. And it is never wrong.

I found that in order for me to understand it, I had to break it down. Here are six guaranteed ways to get what we want—every time.

Get Clear.
What is we really want? What are we chasing? Is it a material thing or a feeling? Most people don’t get what they want because they have no idea what they want. Even if what they want came and bit them in the ass, they would have no clue. Whatever it is we think we want, become clear about it. Details matter. Vague goals create vague results.

Ask for it.
This is a no-brainer, right? But it’s a step a lot of people forget. First we make these unclear demands and then wonder why our life is a crap-shot. Then we forget to ask. It’s like sitting in a coffee shop waiting for the latte that was never ordered. (Or maybe it was a chai tea?) Whatever our beliefs—the Universe, God, Buddha, Allah, whether we get down on bended knee, meditate or journal—make sure we are asking for what we want.

Be thankful.
Gratitude, gratitude, gratitude. I can’t preach enough how this one simple practice has changed my life. Sick of hearing it? But are we doing it? Although there are some preferred methods, there is no right or wrong way to do gratitude. What’s important is that we acknowledge what we have now and feel grateful for it. Make a list of ten, 30 or 100 things each day. Whatever compels us, be thankful. We will reap the rewards within days. Guaranteed.

Believe it.
No sense in making a request if we don’t believe we’ll get it. I mean, do we order food at a restaurant and then badger the waitress every thirty seconds to make sure the food is coming? No. We wait for it. We know it’s coming. It’s been ordered. The same is true in life. Know what we want, make the request, be thankful for what we have and believe with all our heart we will get what we desire.

Let go.
Detachment and surrender are such incredibly powerful practices. Powerful but hard as hell. Once the detailed request is made and we know we are going to get it, let go of the need to control it. We have to detach ourselves from the outcome. When the need comes from a place of desperation, it shows. And it’s not pretty. Success never comes from a place of lack. Trust and let go.

Take inspired action. So this one may seem counterintuitive, but it’s another important thing that gets overlooked. The reason why The Secret didn’t work for me was because:

1. I didn’t do all of the steps above.

2. I sat around and waited for it to happen. Taking inspired action toward our goal will help it manifest faster. We can’t expect to be at our perfect weight overnight, while eating donuts on the couch.

Likewise, we can’t expect to excel in career or business if we never do the work. Taking action and working toward something we want will put us on the path to expansion and growth.

When we recognize the massive abilities our thoughts and beliefs have, we will be able to create and enjoy things we’ve never imagined possible. Get clarity. Ask for it. Believe it and receive it.
