Her Name Was Written On the Sky. {Poem}

beach, girl, summer, sunshine

She would go to the beach

and stand there
in the blue and yellow
and white
and dig her feet down
below the top
hot, crusty layer of sand.

Her mother would have a scarf
around her head
Her baby brother would be throwing seashells
as far as the eye could see
And there’d be sandwiches
in the picnic basket.

Her legs would be straight
and wide apart
She would put her hands on her hips
and her hair would blow back
like wings.

The skirt on her little bathing suit would flap
and the seagulls would flap
and the ocean would flap
and the wings of her hair would flap.

She would bend her head back
and look up at the salty sky
to see an airplane
built of matchsticks
dipping and swirling.

It would be writing words with ink made of
puffy white smoke.
Someone would take a picture of her
standing there
in the sand
in the wind
in her little pink bathing suit
and her name in the sky.
