The Space Between. {Poem}

Keerest

In the midst

of a life in full bloom,

I am delightfully tired.

My bones are happily weary, my blissfully full heart yearns

for just one hour of quiet.

And here is solace:

in the pause between breaths.

In the silence after one conversation ends and before another begins.

In the blank pages that intercept two chapters.

The brief interlude amidst tasks, when my eyes shut.

In child’s pose. In savasana.

In allowing myself imperfections.

In the moment after I swallow a delicious bite of wholesome food.

A quiet smile exchanged between my son and I.

The pause when I enter the shower—hot water and silence engulf me.

These little bursts of quiet rest are everywhere

if I only remember to embrace them.

Breathe, smile, pause.

The space between.
