From Across the Room. {Men for Pride}

Your voice made deep impressions on my mind

From across the room.

I heard the baritone of your conversation
Intelligent, meaningful words
That spoke to my soul.

I turned to look at you and found you already staring in my direction.

You are not a god, you are not an illusion
Yet you seem like those things to me
I never dared believe that there was someone like you.

Striding purposefully toward me
Your eyes sensual and dark
Amusement playing on your lips
You knew what you did to me.

Dressed to kill
Impeccable manners
Self-assured
Everything I admire in a man.

Our hands touched
Our bodies resonated with the power of our recognition
You knew me and I knew you
If only by some ancient dream
Of a lover that would one day materialize—
An answer to a quiet longing.

In your embrace
There is strength,
In your kiss a demand for unbridled passion.

In your promise to me
A love that transcends gender and acceptable unions.

I’m humbled by your intensity
I’m reduced to tears by your need for me
I’m laid bare in your arms and find solace in the way you touch me.

What will we face as a consequence of your boldness?

We will brave anything to defend our togetherness.

The world is shifting, groaning, splitting to find room for a love like ours
We must never hang our heads and be ashamed of the way we love
We must be strong for not everyone has this freedom.

You are my reward for staying true to who I am
I am your reward for the days you dreamed of what could be

We don’t need forgiveness for the way we are.

We are made for this.

We are warriors for what is right.

We are warriors for the right to love. Openly. With Dignity.

With PRIDE.

“The earth is the mother of all people, and all people should have equal rights upon it.” ~ Chief Joseph

“I’m a supporter of gay rights. And not a closet supporter either. From the time I was a kid, I have never been able to understand attacks upon the gay community. There are so many qualities that make up a human being… by the time I get through with all the things that I really admire about people, what they do with their private parts is probably so low on the list that it is irrelevant.” ~ Paul Newman
