Wag your Entire Body: Lessons on Living Life from A Dog.

“If I could be half the person my dog is, I’d be twice the human I am.” ~ Charles Yu

Dogs have more of life figured out than most humans, and the best thing is that they are unapologetically devoted to those they love.

Dogs seem to get life in a way that most of us mere humans spend decades trying to figure out. They understand the simple things, and provide an example for us on how to live a good life.

When a six-year-old little boy was asked to say goodbye to the family’s elderly dog, he wasn’t crying right along with his family. When asked why, he simply responded, “People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life—like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?” He continued, “Well dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”

These are the rules from our furry friends on how to simply live a good life:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Never pass up an opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

Take naps.

Stretch before rising.

Run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simply growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the fresh grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

Delight in the simply joy of a long walk.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you’re not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.
