When You’ve Been Everywhere. {Poem}

I should send myself away,

Yes, this is what I’d like to do.
Allow myself to be led astray,
Somewhere I haven’t got a clue.

My mother will surely say,
Child, why do you do this to me?
But the urge to leave is greater than to stay,
And honestly, would you have it any other way?
The girl you grew doesn’t want to flee,
No, she just wants to be free.

So picture it now,
The wind in my hair,
Sand in my shoes,
Or ice on snow boots.
Grass stains on trousers,
Oh, I’ll frolic amongst flowers,
And climb the highest mountain.

You’ll ask where I haven’t been,
And when someone stares at my nappy hair,
I’ll shrug my shoulders and be the girl without a care,
Because that sort of thing just doesn’t matter,
When you’ve been everywhere.
