Why do we wait,

To play
Until the day’s work is done?

Why do we wait,
To smile
Until the stranger smiles first?

Why do we wait,
To intentionally create
Until conditions are perfect?

Why do we wait,
To feel freedom
Until we are much older?

Why do we wait,
To say, “I am sorry”
Until the dark clouds have passed?

Why do we wait,
To softly exhale
Until the threat is gone?

Why do we wait,
To heal
When forgiveness is always available?

Why do we wait,
To hold our children
Until they are crying for our embrace?

Why do we wait,
To speak of love
Until the other speaks it first?

Why do we wait,
To honor
Until the souls have left the bodies?

Why do we wait,
To express the deepest of love
Until we feel safe?

Why do we wait,
To truly live
Until we realize we are going to die?
