Shoot for the Stars in October’s Hunter Moon.

Artemis

*Eleditor’s note: Astrology isn’t a religion. We’re not sure it’s a science, either. It’s magic, maybe. But, as with feng shui, say, things affect things. So as long as we don’t go blaming our problems on the stars, as long as we assume responsibility for our own actions…well, hell, a little auspicious coincidence and applicable wisdom can’t hurt. And so, with that grain of salt…enjoy!

There is a very certain reason that each month has a special, unique feel to it. This October is one that has been called the month of the hunt and it is a month to draw us out into the wilds and into our own deepest desires.

Every season has specific folklore attached to it and special spiritual powers, too. Many traditional people knew that the cycles of the Earth were signs of what we were being called to attend to in our own lives, in coordination with the rhythms of our universe and the celestial bodies.

October has commonly been seen as a month to summon us to one last, big adventure before the coming winter; it is a time to foray into the wilderness of our lives and our opportunity to covet what we will need for the next stage in preparation, before a spiritual hibernation.

What is obvious about this month is that it is a time of transition—the final golden leaves are blowing through unmistakably cooler streets and we are pulling out layers of clothes we haven’t touched in months. Change is shaping our world right now and whenever we are in flux it becomes important to keep our vision and purpose clear—fortunately, we have some special help this month.

We may feel a rush of energy to stock up on our personal supplies. These staples are not just physical ones but emotional and spiritual, too. This is a time to set intentions for practice, meditation, cleansing and to attend to the part of our lives that we sometimes overlook. We want to be nicely balanced in the light before the arrival of the dark

With this months specific organic qualities comes the energy of the mighty huntress, Diana. Diana is the Roman Goddess of the Hunt, also called the Lunar Virgin and the lady of the natural world. Seen as carrying a bow and arrow and draped in animal skins, this time of year was designed as our keen chance to aim steady and shoot straight for precisely what we want.

When we feel Diana’s presence, she will be the warrior that can take us safely into the wilds. This Goddess arrives to help us cement our vision of what we truly need and where we will find it.

It is important to listen for the call of Diana now, as she is wanting to be a guide to steer us towards a new harvest. When we make choices that her keen huntress reflexes know to be true, we will be rewarded with a feeling of steady peace and led to a particular prize.

She has come to remind us to not give up before we have scored our bounty, for with her as companion we have the ability to grasp our desires. The wisdom of this goddess will support us in finding only the best catch to suit our authentic purpose and drive.

Presently, it is essential to become aware of the people, places and things that do not serve us, for this is what we no longer need and our hunter instincts are primed to let them go.

In the natural world, this season is the time when the animals have been fattened by their summer feed and the long grasses and leaves have died away so our prey is easily seen.

Equal in our own experience, what we have been waiting for will now be visible and within our reach.

Yes, those big dreams have now been made manifest and with the bow and arrow of Diana we can shoot and hit our mark.

Like was traditionally done after a hunt, once we have gotten what we set out for, it is important to give thanks to honour what it is that surrendered to us in the greater cycle of life. We find gratitude in this moment when we remember all that has given itself to us so that we can thrive.

If we get shaky as we head out to the call of our next grand vision, we can confidently know that the strength of Diana is here with us. She has the power to instruct the natural world, so understand that all animals are here to support us in our purpose, too.

Diana will ensure that our arrows are sharp and our will is renewed. All we need to do is listen for her whispering voice and when she beckons us, alertly move, knowing she is guiding us to well deserved delights.

We can heed the call of our wildest dreams in this month of October—both the one within us and that of our great Earth Mother.

Let our most glorious hunt begin!
