“Wellness that Worx” – American Alternative Health Care Ingenuity.

by on Jan 30, 2012

It dawned on Ms. Nelson, who also has worked as a marketing and communications consultant for businesses, that there was something she could do to help meet this need. Her vision was to create a win-win solution whereby clients in need can obtain alternative health care treatments at a reduced cost and whereby practitioners can grow their businesses by dramatically increasing their clientele. Hence, the “Wellness Networx.” Wellness Networx is a network of alternative health care providers in and around the Boulder area that offers services at affordable discounted rates for members.

Poet Slams Religion but Preaches Jesus.

by on Jan 12, 2012

It's not often that a poem goes viral - let alone one by a Christian. And yet, one has. Accompanied by dramatic background music, young Jefferson Bethke created a video of him reciting a poem.

Fight Bigotry: Eat Girl Scout Cookies!

by on Jan 12, 2012

It is now official GS policy that any child presenting as a girl is welcome. They also have a longstanding tradition of accepting lesbian scout leaders and scouts. They are also fully accepting of all religions (and atheists) and while the Girl Scout Law & Promise include the word "God," there are alternative versions that are totally accepted. And YET.... ...ONE ex-Girl Scout seems to have her pretty pink knickers in a twist.

Make some snacks, settle in your couches, and enjoy the game - and the terrific ads! Budweiser's horses playing football are my favorites. 2012 is The End! It’s the Beginning! …Or it’s just another year.

by on Dec 30, 2011

The clocks are ticking and 2011 is about to end and it’s about to be 2012. For some, this is a big deal. A lot of people, from various walks of life, think that something big is about to happen. In the past year, a fundamentalist Christian radio personality name Harold Camping got not one, but two, 15 minutes of fame for casting predictions that the world would end within 2011 – and a lot of his followers maxed out their credit cards, sold their life’s possessions, and one woman slit her children's throats and tried to kill herself in preparation.

Jesus’ Mom was a Punk – Redux!

by on Dec 20, 2011

A punk rock band should do a song based on Mary’s “Magnificat” (Luke 1:46-55). Knocked-up, teen-aged Mary was the first punk singer and the first rock & roller. When she learned that she would bear the Christ-child, she sang a song. It was a song of praise. And it was a song of protest and rebellion. She celebrates that God is about to do something new in the world. She was celebrating that God was about to turn the world upside-down, knock the wealthy oppressors off their pedestals, lift up those who’ve been oppressed, and usher-in a new reign of social justice and reconciliation.

Death by Neti Pot. Amoebas on the loose.

by on Dec 16, 2011

'Tap water is safe for drinking, but not for irrigating your nose.' Bottom Line: Use only distilled or boiled water and non-iodized salt with your neti pot! It might also be best to use neti pots only while you are actually sick, or feel that you're about to become ill, and not use it on a daily basis.

Santa in a Brothel?

by on Dec 6, 2011

...What if we were to honor the Christ-child, who came into the putrid, ugly messiness of this world (he was born in a cattle stall) in order to redeem it, by stepping up and doing what we can to prevent any of God’s precious little ones from being used, abused, victimized, and discarded — and rescue those who are? What if we were Santa in a brothel for God in the brothels?

Forgiveness happens. WOW!!

by on Dec 3, 2011

The would-be robber looked at his would-be victim, "like what's going on here?" Diaz says. "He asked me, 'Why are you doing this?'" Diaz replied: "If you're willing to risk your freedom for a few dollars, then I guess you must really need the money. I mean, all I wanted to do was get dinner and if you really want to join me ... hey, you're more than welcome.

Holy Kindness Batman! A rebel with a cause.

"Nonviolence isn't just a philosophy of resistance. It is a way of life. Nonviolence is the thoughts we have, the words that we use, the clothes that we wear, the things that we say. It is not just an absence of violence, not even just the absence of wanting to cause harm. Nonviolence is a state when your heart is so full of love, compassion, kindness, generosity and forgiveness that you simply don't have any room for anger, frustration or violence," Pancho describes.

“adventus absurdus” — a poem for Advent 2011

by on Nov 26, 2011

in the bleak midwinter … millions are unemployed, uninsured, and under pressure. widening gap between the haves and the have-nots widening and gappening like mick jagger about to eat all of the billions of burgers mcdonald’s serves from the deforested brazillian rainforests turned into grazing land to feed our addictions to cheap bovine carcasses infused with hormones, antibiotics, and monsanto’s irreversibly genetically modified pastures.

by on Oct 15, 2011

Can you be spiritual and be an occupier? What does conscious activism look like? What will you do? After two weeks with a notable lack of media coverage about it, American Christians are learning about an amazing phenomenon that is taking place on Wall Street in New York that has birthed a movement that’s spreading across the land

An Empty Gurney. {Troy Davis, Jesus, & us}

by on Sep 22, 2011

As a symbol, the cross has pretty much lost it's power. It's become a mere piece of bling that people wear who haven't the foggiest idea of what it means. An empty cross is supposed to show that the powers of this world are impotent and have been defeated. That God's love is stronger than our hate and fear. If Jesus had been killed in 2011, it would've been via being strapped to a vinyl table and having chemicals forced into his veins. If I were to wear such an unusual pendant on a necklace around my neck, people would likely ask "what is that?" And I'd be honored to tell them.

Why the Death Penalty Sucks.

by on Sep 21, 2011

Folks, the State of Georgia is hours away (7PM EST) from killing someone who is likely innocent. Beyond that injustice, however, is the fact that killing people to try to teach people that killing people is wrong -- is oxymoronic.

Diaper-rashana?

by on Sep 20, 2011

I'd forgotten what my toes tasted like. This clip combines yoga practice with the Buddhist ideal of recapturing the child-like "beginner's mind."

What’s YOUR story? a review of “Storydwelling”

by on Sep 9, 2011

In her words, "Storydwelling is about cultivating courageous and compassionate curiosity for each other by deeply listening to and authentically sharing our stories with one another, thereby healing ourselves and our world. Storydwelling, the album, is a collection of songs from our shared human story, deeply personal songs from my story, and songs with imagination for the story we will write together with our lives...
