California fires- a poem of hope

Part 1

Sky the color of pig’s ear

Armageddon out my window

Sun an orange orb lurking

Near the horizon

Then meandering up

Through smokey fog.

How to be with this feeling of ominous?

Of everything’s falling apart?

Of no solid ground?

Of no clean air?

This moment now

Is the only certainty

So dive in deep

To the rhythm

Of beating heart

The cocoon

Of spaciousness.

Part 2

Strange beauty of yellow sky

The ever adaptable earth

Holding the capacity

To do things I’ve never seen before..

So I too have the capacity to hold

What I’ve never done before.

The capacity to be in

Constant change and transformation..

Breathe it ALL in

To the bottomless expanse

Of the heart.
