Synchronicity and mindfulness are keys to effective time management.

by on Jan 27, 2012

There’s more to scheduling your time than setting priorities and filling in blocks in your calendar. In fact, the time you leave blank may be the most important time of all.

Double rainbows

Three keys to setting mindful goals.

by on Jan 20, 2012

How big should a goal be? What does it mean to set goals mindfully? There’s no telling how big your right-sized goal will be until you pay attention to aspiration, receivability, and gratitude. It could be much smaller or larger than you first anticipated. What is certain is that it will be squarely in the middle of what is possible for you at this place and time.

We’re the Divine Losers.

by on Dec 27, 2011

“The truth is that we are losers. You make enough fuss that you attract the real forces down on you. And then you have to hide. We’re always gonna be in the minority, and we’re always gonna lose. We’ve always lost, all through history. We’re the divine losers. And I keep inviting all these young, [...]

You Aren’t Working Too Hard.

by on Dec 20, 2011

Working hard doesn’t make you tired. Believing that you should dream smaller; believing that you should be less passionate; believing that you are too small, too poor, or too ordinary to change the world–all those things will exhaust you.

Pretty much, you need a product line called Property of Facebook. Technically, it is sort of your property and hence, you should take advantage. These products should be inspired by my poetic lines entitled Property of Facebook, which I’ve created entirely out of facebook statuses.

Why less is more – remembering what’s important at Christmas.

by on Dec 7, 2011

I do wonder if anyone is any happier now that we buy more? Do the 105 extra minutes we get on the limited edition DVD really add anything to the film? Have we forgotten how to do anything without getting out our wallets?

hmmodels

Shame on you, H&M.

by on Dec 6, 2011

it is irresponsible to live in a false and isolated microcosm. The fashion industry, celebrities, and the media are looked up to and are used as a guide for many on how to live life, a guide that is being used more and more and we further disconnect ourselves from our own realities and instead rely on what is external.

The Afghan Girl Who Wanted to Be a Boy. ~ Saba Gul

by on Dec 5, 2011

Unlike other girls in 1990s Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, Azaada Khan walked with her head uncovered and her gait fearless. She changed her name to that of a boy’s; her attire and haircut followed, all so she would be allowed to attend school in a country where girls could be punished by law for doing so.

Could Globalisation be good for Social & Environmental Enterprise?

by on Nov 27, 2011

As #occupy, #socent and the #socmed savvy socialists sharpen their pitchforks and coil up the rope, I rest secure in the knowledge that here, in a friend’s house on the coast north of Byron Bay, it’s too windy for the blazing fires of indignation to stay alight for long. After all wasn’t this missive: – [...]

Steve Jobs’ Final Words.

by on Oct 30, 2011

From Mona Simpson’s eulogy. In keeping with his beginner’s mind—his “capacity for wonderment“—his final words were simple, and dynamic instead of static, just like his life’s work. From his sister, the writer Mona Simpson: …But with that will, that work ethic, that strength, there was also sweet Steve’s capacity for wonderment, the artist’s belief in [...]

Want a Better World? Be a Geek. ~ Max Zografos

by on Oct 27, 2011

Here in Corpland, it’s acceptable to dismiss someone’s argument as “too technical.” The moment a task requires the minimum of rigour, it gets delegated to the bottom of the food chain at the speed of light.

“Love Marks” & My Interview with Tami Simon of Sounds True. ~ Tara DeAngelis

by on Oct 26, 2011

Do I think we are going through a flowering of human consciousness? I don’t know. The mandate is to actively work on such a great awakening, right now, with every cell of our being, give it everything we’ve got.We can’t wait for governments, individual politicians, Whole Foods, or elephant journal. We can’t wait for anybody! Whether it’s inevitable or the longest shot in the world. Let’s completely offer 100 percent of everything we have to that possibility. I believe that. I believe I would be doing that even if there was no chance.

Horizon Milk & Silk Soy: 20 Reasons to Ride the White Wave into Dean Foods Green. ~ Tara DeAngelis

by on Oct 6, 2011

As a reader of elephant journal, it is likely you have purchased Horizon Organic Milk, or Silk soy milk recently. Who knew they were owned by the same company, White Wave, who is now owned by Dean Foods? I sure didn’t.Even though food companies like Dean Foods are acquiring companies demonstrating Right-Livelihood, like White Wave, it is still disturbing that the industry is moving closer and closer to being monopolized. The loss of integrity in the organic food industry, along with Monsanto’s rising is a eminent crisis that will affect our generation very soon.

What Happens at Family Dinner Stays At Family Dinner…but should it? ~ Sara Lindsey

by on Sep 6, 2011

Every Friday, my boyfriend and his buddies get together and make a meal, drink some beer, watch a game and make music. They go to the local grocery store and usually pick up a pack of the cheap chicken wings or slabs of steak, and split the cost. It’s simple. Affordable. Something that everyone can enjoy.
Unless you have seen what goes on in slaughterhouses.

Celebrity/Luxury/Exotic/Intensive! Yoga Spa Retreat! ~ Lee Graham

by on Aug 9, 2011

Some of the best classes I have ever had were with unknown yogis, who were just passionate about yoga and not so overly enmeshed in the business of yoga. Just because a yogi is a killer self-promoter, doesn’t mean they are a bad yogi, necessarily. But it doesn’t mean they are the best yogi for you, either.

Yoga Teacher Training Schools: Creating Teachers Or Life-Long Students?

by on Jul 21, 2011

Lately, though, I’m beginning to see that not all yoga teachers feel that their training is a lifelong commitment. I now realize that not all yoga teachers consider themselves teachers or anything other than a fitness instructor who happens to also teach yoga. What concerns me is the pumping out of new yoga teachers who attend a 6-hour workshop and walk out with a piece of paper that says “certified” yoga teacher
