The morning news of massive death tolls from natural and societal disasters left me with a bruised heart that stuck with me all day, and the vivid beauty of the dark blue spring storm, heavy in the sky, only saturated the sadness. But then driving down the rural highway toward the storm to the north, I see that it is really was just sadness with no object, for no reason and every reason: the sadness of destruction and the sadness of beauty, inseparable. And then there were horses running in the fields along the side of the highway, lonely and together under the huge, dark sky. ~Corey Kohn
