While the last scene in Monty Python’s Life of Brian was not the motivation (Spartacus, however, was for some), young Obama supporters are adopting the Senator’s middle name, “Hussein,” as their own in an act of solidarity. Read about it here.
I really like my middle name; it’s McKay. It was actually almost my first name, but my mom was worried that my Jewish grandmother would think it was too, er…Gentile (I look like a Rachel, so it worked out).
While I find it absurd when people reference Obama’s middle name as a reason not to trust him, or to question his agenda, I understand that to many people sometimes a rose by any other name…is, well, not a rose. So kudos to these young staffers and supporters who are working to change preconceived notions.
I would like to add that my grandmother is voting for Obama.
