Eco-Friendly Inner Tube Messenger Bags, Totes, Book Bags, & Belts.

~ On the Road Again ~

Two years ago, Heather English walked into the basement of her Nederland, Colorado home with an old innertube. A few hours later, she walked out carrying a messenger bag. “I was a hardcore vegetarian,” Heather explains, “and wanted something fashionable and invincible, but not made from leather. There really weren’t many cool bags, so I went to McGuckin’s, [her local indie hardware store] bought some tools and started my own personal sweatshop. With me doing the sweating.”

English Retreads was born. She now offers handbags, book bags, dog collars, totes, backpacks, belts and change purses — made with nothing more than seat belts, rivets, retired innertubes and lots of elbow grease.

Comes with a 1-year money-back guarantee and lifetime warranty.

I love their stuff. I have a handbag that I get complimented on a good deal. I want a belt. When people ask about my bag I quickly mention how it is a local Boulder company upcycling tubes.

The material lasts forever and they're so easy to clean!

  3. Jayme P: I have one of her bags and have had it for about 6 years. They're not only eco-friendly but gorgeous and wear beautifully over time. And, Heather is great and has fixed it a few times when my bag tangled with my bike in an unfortunate way.

Mary J C: I've seen these bags — I think at the Real Goods store in Hopland, CA. They are very cool and chic.

  4. Wow, from the archives… seven years later we're still rollin'! Thanks Way and all of the English Retreads supporters.
