Screw Groupon. Save Money and Support a Good Cause [in Denver].

It’s not news that Groupon sucks, but every morning when the deals roll into my inbox, I feel the need to check ’em out. I have a tiny pang in my gut as I click the oh-so-tempting email—knowing I shouldn’t support such a cause—but 75% off a hot stone massage (!), this girl can’t resist.

It’s no surprise either to see this trend in discount consumerism on the rise like never before. With daily emails announcing up to 90% off deals in your area, consumers are crazed. In addition to Groupon’s tasteless marketing, there is nothing local about them—despite their marketing attempts to hype up the relationship of the consumer to their “local adventures.”

Luckily, local deals have been popping up out of local newspapers or local morning tv shows mimicking the deals of Groupon. This is one step in the right direction.

But finally, a company has found a way to give consumers what they want and give charities what they need [in Denver, but hopefully soon to follow elsewhere!]. Your Lucky Deals, a Denver daily deal and city guide website, takes this idea to the next level. In addition to supplying their local consumer with discounts, they give 10% to reader-choice fave local charities.

To identify Denver’s four favorite charities, a recent Facebook contest gave subscribers the opportunity to vote for which organizations would receive 10 percent of Your Lucky Deals’ proceeds in 2011. The winning charities are MaxFund (No-kill Animal Adoption Center and Wellness Clinic), Safe House (Serves victims of domestic violence), and Denver Rescue Mission (Provides shelter, food, clothing, education, teaching, and work discipline.) Your Lucky Deals also chose one of their own favorite charities, Boulder-based Educate! (which empowers the next generation of socially responsible leaders in Africa).

Love the deals. Love the cause. I’m in.

Community-minded Website Saves Subscribers Money and Supports Local Charities

Your Lucky Deals offers deals at discounts of 40 to 90 percent. In the first months, deals will be available to local dining hot spots, pet services, kids’ activities, photography sessions, and more. During checkout, 10 percent of the transaction’s proceeds will be donated to the charity of the customers’ choice.

Ryan Smith and Dana Morgan, siblings and business partners, wanted to start a company in their hometown of Denver that would have a positive impact on the community. “We have a strong passion for volunteer work and giving back to our community,” says Morgan, VP of Marketing for Your Lucky Deals.

“I could not be more pleased with the organizations we will be supporting in 2011 and I’m excited to have Your Lucky Deals up and running. It’s a great opportunity to drive local commerce and support these outstanding community charities,” says Smith, President of Your Lucky Deals.

With a philanthropic focus, Your Lucky Deals provides a new avenue to support charitable organizations within the community. Next week, Your Lucky Deals will begin by offering deals on Tuesdays and Fridays, followed by additional days added in March.
