“She DID take off her spiked boots. Word spread fast that she was in class and around 500 people were waiting outside when she left.”

There’s about twenty more online, check ’em if you’re obsessed. I’m not. Still, fun.

    Ed S Everyone willing to pay a hundred bucks for a mat likes Manduka.

    Emily M I didn't know there were "kinds" of mats. Mine's purple and has little flowers on it. That's what kind it is…lol

    Whitney Ervin Manduka totally deserves all the attention, their mats kick ass!

    It's like a coach purse, or gucci shades. Yeah, its a little more pricey, but you hardly touch the thing and you can tell how well made and . . . Nice it is. Totally worth it. Especially once you've worn out a few average mats, my Manduka pro is solid. I won't have to get another one for a long long time.

    # Yah, Emily, I'll go with Whitney on this one…as Yvon Chouinard of Patagonia says, our "tools" should be built to last a lifetime. A quality mat is worth it. I've had mine for 9 years, and it'll easily go another 9 or 18. That's "green." ~ W.

    Emily MacDonald I wasn't trying to be snarky – I've done yoga for years with the same cheapie mat and had no idea there were mat "brands." 🙂

    Ed Scheterlak What's a snark? The yoga industry has many many ways to shake your ankles until all the money falls out. Sara at Tapas invented mats about 20 years ago when she saw someone using carpet under padding cut to fit for a yoga class. From this spun mats, travel mats, rugs to cover mats, mat bags, mat cleaners. deodorizers, aroma therapy sprays, carry straps, ad nauseam.

    Emily MacDonald Most of the time I do yoga outside in a level place and don't use a mat. I like the feeling of connecting with the ground, I keep my mat at the gym for the occasions that I do pilates on their hardwood floor and other people use it when I'm not using it. <shrug>

    A creature defined in Lewis Carroll's "The Hunting of the Snark". Decribed as those creatures "that have feathers, and bite, and those that have whiskers, and scratch".
    "If your Snark be a Snark, that is right:
    Fetch it home by all means—you …may serve it with greens,
    And it’s handy for striking a light.
    You may seek it with thimbles—and seek it with care;
    You may hunt it with forks and hope;
    You may threaten its life with a railway-share;
    You may charm it with smiles and soap—”See More

    Colin Wiseman For one of my classes, the studio is also used for Ninjitsu. In the studio we have those large sponge squares that jigsaw together. Amazing to put a mat on to, makes a big difference. So I do agree that a well made, decent thinkness mat, like Manduka (or Gaiam), makes all the difference to your practice…but come on surely there are better people to show than Lady GaGa!!

    Ed Scheterlak GaGa is smart talented and progressive. She may be over the top but the idea that she is a yogini makes me happy. I'd rather see her than some of the anorectics in Yoga Journal.

  5. Thanks Waylon for the heads up. So nice to see how our mats make it around the world into the most unlikely situations. I didn't even know Lady Gaga was into yoga. She is amazing….

    Off topic, but are you Greek? If so, you have won the lottery of life. Congratulations!

  8. […] Yoga: yoga is so important. It’s, like, saved my life. Yoga means unions, but rich people can go, too, it’s open to everybody. It’s very embracing of diversity. Yoga teaches you to embrace everyone and open with love and respect. Problem is, sometimes the classes are super full of idiots using a first class free coupon, and you have to be right next to all sorts of randos. Good thing I have a wiiiide Manduka mat—it’s what Lady Gaga uses. Totally. […]

    Why the f* am I supposed to care what kind of yoga mat Lady Gaga uses?
