Effing Liberals.

I’m a liberal. And a patriot. I’m a Buddhist, and I’m happy to say God Bless America! We’re a nation built on guarantees of freedom, a nation that embraces our melting-pot history, a nation that gets it wrong often, but right in the end.

I’m a liberal, but I respect Republicans. I don’t enjoy knee-jerk well-rehearsed partisanship. I work toward a common ground. But…I’m a liberal, and I don’t go in for eating our own, either.

Seems them "Anti-Republican Crusaders" are proud to wear the Liberal Badge.

I was gonna say, Liberals gave us the military-industrial complex and war as a way of life. But, come to think of it, conservatives helped them and even took over leadership of the program.

I was gonna say, Liberals have given us spending so out of control it threatens to bring down the entire system. But conservatives, have in fact, despite their fine words, raised spending just as much.

I was gonna say, Liberals gave us Crony Capitalism with Wall Street and Washington in bed together. But conservatives are in on that one, too.

I was gonna say, Liberals are firmly behind the incarceration of millions of mostly minority Americans for victimless crimes. But conservatives are, too, maybe even more so.

Guess I won’t be proudly displaying either badge.

Seems that easy conclusions are just that. I was gonna say a lot more, too.

But you forget, my friend, that what we call "liberal" and "conservative" has changed parties many times. The liberals have not always been the Democrats… Conservatives once believed in, you know, conserving the land. The belief in the desireability of "foreign entanglements" has shifted around a few times.

Back in the days of that commie Eisenhower, marginal tax rates peaked at 90%. Reagan raised taxes. Roosevelt (the other one) set up National Parks. Johnson couldn't understand why anyone would oppose a splendid little war in Vietnam. Clinton signed off on welfare reform.

    And so it goes…
