“The biggest devil is me. I’m either my best friend or my worst enemy.”

Whitney Houston:

August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012

The first big concert I ever went to was Whitney Houston at age 12. (Don’t laugh…you liked her too back then!) Even then, she was fighting her demons and it took her over an hour to come out on stage. I remember my dad trying to explain it to me, and I had a vague understanding of drugs, but was just disappointed that it took so long for her to come perform.

Many years later, many wins and many more losses in her struggles for health and sobriety, Whitney has passed on.

Let’s remember her at her best:

“No one will ever sing the anthem better.”

Without commentary:

One last: “Performance by Whitney Houston in Johannesburg, 1994, a concert for a New South Africa. Singing her hit I Will Always Love You.”

Love the pause around 2 minutes in.

I remember hearing her in… 1987? At the Dome in Boulder, where we all played basketball and traded baseball cards and Jesse Locke had a girlfriend, which blew all of our minds. RIP. ~ Waylon

  2. Yeah, I think it was '88 for me? So tragic.
