About elephant journal

elephant journal is dedicated to "bringing together those working (and playing) to create enlightened society." We're about anything that helps us to live a good life that's also good for others, and our planet. >>> Founded as a print magazine in 2002, we went national in 2005 and then (because mainstream magazine distribution is wildly inefficient from an eco-responsible point of view) transitioned online in 2009. >>> elephant's been named to 30 top new media lists, and was voted #1 in the US on twitter's Shorty Awards for #green content...two years running. >>> Get involved: > Subscribe to our free Best of the Week e-newsletter. > Follow us on Twitter Fan us on Facebook. > Write: send article or query. > Advertise. > Pay for what you read, help indie journalism survive and thrive.

  6. What a beautiful idea!

I try to find a way to be thankful for everything, but right at this moment
I'm thankful for my children (and thankful that they are sleeping peacefully),
I'm thankful for the rain, still falling and making everything such a gorgeous emerald green.
I'm thankful for my spine which is reminding me that it wants a loving stretch instead of sitting at my laptop much longer.
I'm thankful for clean water to drink, which I take for granted far too often.
I'm thankful for dandelions. As simple as they are, they always make me smile.
I'm thankful for George Washington Carver, because peanut butter is awesome.
I'm thankful that my parents made me read books and climb trees instead of watching television.
    I'm thankful for elephant.

  7. I am thankful for the opportunity to have healed lyme disease nearly 100%…and the radical shift in consciousness that the experience provided. I am now a better person because of a tick bite. Never thought I would say that, but I just did.

  8. Rick Gilbert says:

I'm thankful for compassion and gentleness, and for the phenomenal world and its endless ability to show me when I forget these qualities.

  9. Ah, but then I thought of more!

I'm thankful for this second, breath, the smell of virga near the mountains, cherries, the last light of the day, the whine of bagpipes, the bone-tired feeling at the end of a good, long hard day.

I'm thankful for puddles, and rainboots and putting those two together.

I'm thankful for my pillow and I hope to meet it soon.

I'm thankful for wind—in my hair, on my face, over the water.

I'm thankful for my true friends because they remind me how much I have to be thankful for.

I am thankful for my friends and family who are my family.
I am thankful for the lessons of life.
I am thankful for being alive in such interesting times with such potential for creating the kind of world we want.

  30. Melody says:

I often post 30 days of Gratitude before Thanksgiving. Observing this now is fresh and new. I am thankful for my hard working husband, my beautiful healthy girl, my yoga practice, all my pals who listen to my endless stories of BS and a country where I can share my observations of life, yoga and other stuff openly and freely. Thank you Elephant Journal for keeping it fun. I am also grateful for the opportunity to go off my food program and eat chips and cupcakes. Because sometimes, you just need to!!

I am thankful for Elephant Journal. It is my sanity and refuge during endless work days in this cubicle. I am grateful for Kate Bartolotta and Andrea Balt, who have an uncanny ability to write exactly what I need to read in a given day or moment. I don't know what I would do without elephant yoga — the contributors and posts that inspire me and help me through my yoga teacher training. Let me tell you all that you are quoted in every one of my practice teaching sessions (of course with credit!). And a HUGE thank you to Waylon Lewis for making all of this possible.

  39. I am thankful to be in good health which permits me to enjoy my beautiful 3 children to the max :))

laughing hard, from the depths of my belly, mouth wide open, eyes squeezed shut is always so completely refreshing. and helping those who need help getting off the bus – aces. feeling awake with absolute certitude – TO IT ALL. and for discovering the first 2 (of many to come) grey hairs. and that after 5 yrs, seeing my 8 siblings and their families this summer as we celebrate my momma's 70th b.day and knowing that it will be a huge challenging pain in the ass. all that and soooooo much = gratefulness.
oh wait, last one – for pushing through the German red-tape and receiving official permission to work full-time as a translator/editor and for the most amazing colleagues (despite them being German (giggle giggle))! ja, that one tops it for schizzles, yo!

I'm thankful that in a Country where I lost my job because of criminal fat cats trying to make an extra million, in a country where the politicians decided to pay those fat cats debts at the expense of the people, in a country where said politicians make me feel like a criminal because I cannot find work and make me pay for the mistakes of others by squeezing money out of me, putting be below the breadline, in a country where those politicians say that the young people leaving by the tens of thousands with tears in their eyes are leaving as a "lifestyle choice, to see the world" and not because there's no work… that I can still find love, support and compassion from my Parents and my friends.

  44. Carolyn says:

I am thankful for the eternal love and support they have provided for me every second of every day since before I was even born.
I am thankful for my younger sister, who is also my best friend/ better-half/ soulmate, who although we had our own bedrooms growing up, shared a bed most nights for as long as I can remember so we could do our dreaming together.
I am thankful for my beautiful best friends and the laughs and the tears we have shared together over the years on city streets, our yoga mats, sandy beaches, in dive bars and each others always wide open arms.
I am thankful for my lovers, past and present, for breaking my heart and cracking it open. For sometimes making me laugh and sometimes making me cry. For teaching my to do list making, whole day organizing, go, go, go self the value in lazy Sunday mornings where the bed head can go uncombed and we eat each eachothers sweet kisses for breakfast.
I am thankful for being thankful.
