There are big changes at Facebook happening, what?

The change is subtle but significant. The search bar at the top is about to become relevant. The bitter truth is Facebook search has always sucked, unless you are looking for a friend. Looking for anything else, even a business page has been difficult. The slightest misspelling results in a useless search. You almost do better searching on Google with the word Facebook included!

What is the big change? The social graph is finally getting integrated into your results. You have to sign up here if you want to get in on the waiting list for the beta version of this search. There is no risk, search has been terrible for so long on Facebook this has to be an improvement!

“The purpose of life is to be defeated by greater and greater things.” ~  Rainer Maria Rilke

The real bomb that Facebook dropped, was announcing 240 Billion photos on Facebook. This is an amazing number that I have been preaching for years now (okay, I didn’t actually say that number but I have been saying we added over 100 billion photos in 2012 alone all last year).

What does this mean for you? Add more photos.

Seriously, if you have a social strategy for your yoga studio or business, or you simply want a social strategy—it must start with photos and end with photos. When you post a good photo of you or someone in your studio doing yoga, do people like it? A lot of people? Watch how people react to your photos and do more of what is working. If you don’t have a strategy for photos, you don’t have a social strategy, period. This is the year we hear a number like 240 billion photos and think that is perfectly normal. This is an obscene number and there is nothing normal about it.

Welcome to 2013.

  1. Colin says:

I hope it does good things for small businesses. But when companies can start to pay to come top of search results, the small business is back to the start.

  2. Pretty cool, in depth article. The things you find on bing =p, how long did this take to write?
