Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield is almost three months into his five-month mission on the International Space Station.

In the time he’s been away from Planet Earth, he has garnered legions of fans who connect with him via Twitter and Facebook—people who are not only interested in his work, but also in his amazing photographs that capture every corner of the globe from a unique perspective.

Chris Hadfield is a photographer. His keen eye has captured countless amazing shots of our earth—from the 16 sunrises he sees each day to the beauty of the moon at night. His lens has captured mountains, oceans, sandstorms in the desert and smoke from fires, all shared with the folks back home along with colorful anecdotes or facts.

He shares pictures of life inside the International Space Station—the pod he sleeps in, weightlessness and tying his running shoes while floating.

During his time away, Col. Hadfield has connected with people through appearances on television programs like the Rick Mercer Report, where he appeared in a skit about filing taxes. He’s also participated in live conversations with groups of school kids who have had the rare opportunity to not only talk to someone who’s in space, but ask questions about what life is like and how astronauts go about their daily lives.

March 13, 2013 at 5:10 p.m. ET, Col. Hadfield is set to take over as the commander of the International Space Station.
