A Soldier, a Yogi, a Warrior Who Shows Up On the Mat, Off the Mat.

You never know who’s gonna show up for a yoga shoot.

And I was certainly excited to have the opportunity to photograph Major Missy Rosol, who obviously is devoted to her yoga practice. Below are a few images we created together, along with a message she has written on this Memorial Day.

On Memorial Day we remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for their brothers and sisters in-arms, their families, and the Nation.  My yoga practice is my way of strengthening my inner core so I can spiritually, mentally and physically better serve my family and my community.  Perhaps by doing the inside and outside work to transform myself, I will be a better servant and in a small way repay and honor the men and women whose sacrifice has made my journey possible.

Thank you, Missy. You are an inspiration.

OMG…Peace is breaking out in the US military. From this tiny ripple, perhaps her entire company will be moved to practice yoga, and before long, all the drones will be beat into plowshares. God bless the Pentagon for embracing yoga!! Yay!!!

  3. Laurie says:

Missy – You are amazing! We miss you.
Much peace, love, & aloha ~

  4. Such powerful images! My son just wrapped up 20 years in the military. He started taking yoga classes a year before he retired. As his mom (and a long-time yoa teacher) I am so pleased! Such a blessing.

Thank you Major for sharing your personal practice!

  5. Yoga is certainly catching on in the military! Yoga balanced me throughout my last few years in the military and made it easier for me to transition back to the 'real' world. Retired just one week ago and teaching several classes a week sharing Yoga with anyone and everyone. Peace.
