Sometimes I Have to Take a Break from Being Spiritual.

“I still have to learn the lessons of the music that comes to me.” ~ Nahko Bear

Sometimes I have to take a break from being spiritual.

I watch New Girl on my borrowed Netflix

and eat whatever I want.

tune out instead of always tuning in.

a chance to relax and actually be still.

not trying to fix anything

or look for deeper meaning,

but just enjoy being totally tranquil,

a lighthearted laugh.

soaking in hot tubs

speaking utter nonsense

allowing myself to smile

… just because.

it feels good to not be so intense about life sometimes.

to do my yoga poses wobbly

to forget to meditate

to eat cereal straight from the box.

to take a look at an elephant’s ass

and feel better about my own.

sometimes it’s nice to look at life in the face

and just laugh.

a deep hearted chuckle at the feeling of innocence.

not looking for meaning, but feeling it instead.

Why not throw your hands up in surrender

and do a little jig while you’re there.

who knows? surely others will join in.

This poem was inspired by my dear and always present friend Cheyenne. She encourages me in every way.

She reminded me tonight to realize that we’re just as good and capable as anyone else.

As one of my favorite yoga quotes goes: “Don’t worry you don’t know [practice, juice, cleanse, reflect, worship] enough. No one ever does.”
