“What the mind realizes as wisdom, the heart experiences as love.”
~ Tara Brach
I breathe sadness often now.
Tears lace my lashes.
Loss and I are best friends.
I bask under the light of despair.
And I am lighter.
The pain eases out slowly.
The anguish grows teeth
Not to gnaw at my heart
But dance beneath the lip of a joy
I am starting to court
In what smiles though I cry.
With the turkey dinner
Planned for me and my two cats.
I remember hope this year
In every pause, in the still moment
Before I embrace what hurts.
I may not be an old soul.
I may not know much. But the wisdom
I hold finds grace in my heart
As I always remember to trust
In the beat that allows me to bleed.
