Time to Live. ~ Vanessa Zeskand

Time to Live Or, How to relinquish old hurts and choose the present joyful life God has for you.

I’ve been seeped in too much heartache,
I’ve drank the stench of ill defeat,
I’ve counted minutes on bleak days,
Where I have mourned of strength deplete;
Daylight blocked by heavy storm clouds,
Sunshine was just outside my reach,
Darkened days devoid of laughter,
The road to comfort had been breached;

Mercy deaf to lies taunting me,
The last of hope had surely passed,
Smiles distant as the sunset,
Was gloominess ‘the victor’ last?

I’ve given credit to untruth,
And too much warped psychology,
I’ve thought the best of wrongful words,
Given undue apology;

I’ve rubbed my tearstained eyes till raw,
To feel the old familiar sting,
Combed over details of my youth,
Bored with its old familiar ring;

I’ve over-born another’s guilt,
Reeled from responsibility,
Attempting sense from things unsure,
And over-thought simplicity;

Amidst my painful suffering,
I heard the faint, yet urgent cry,
To live the life that God gave me,
And let the creaky bygones die;

To stop reliving confessed sins,
Paths I have, in habit, chosen,
To stop reviving hurtful words,
Where, in horror, I stood frozen;

It’s time to live! Time to rejoice!
You have not failed! You have a choice!
Next to the door that leads to death,
Is one releasing heaven’s breath;

Be filled with life from the Spirit,
Embrace the hope that doesn’t fade,
Live the life that God intended,
Old tapes of lies need not be played;

In truth, perhaps you were oppressed,
Captive to illness in your life,
Only God knows what you endured,
Forced to live someone else’s strife;

Don’t forfeit present and resign,
Working to sew a brand new patch,
Onto diseased, dying wineskins,
Take notice of the clear mismatch;

When healing power’s at arm’s length,
Why entertain old, vanquished foes,
Cast lies aside and be remade,
Squash unseen voices with your toes;

Why bring back lies that aren’t true,
Wasting time on fabrication,
Reeling from past injustice done,
This will only breed temptation,

Why not meditate on the truth,
Be blanketed by heaven’s love,
Bask in His endless promises,
Reserved for those who know His love;

He loves to hear His child call out,
Wanting to leave their past behind,
Closing doors to murky places,
Seeking His glory as their find;

Press on to know the high reason,
He has called you by His great name,
Pursue that for which Christ Jesus,
Summons you to eternal fame.

Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me (Phil 3:12).
