But new research reveals that emotional states are universally associated with certain bodily sensations, regardless of individuals’ culture or language.

Once More With Feeling

More than 700 participants in Finland, Sweden and Taiwan participated in experiments aimed at mapping their bodily sensations in connection with specific emotions. Participants viewed emotion-laden words, videos, facial expressions and stories…”

Maybe I'm being a bit irreverent here, but did anyone else see spiderman in the "shame" body and superman in the "sadness" body? Sorry my brain went right there and I'm not even much of a superhero fan but maybe I'll look at them in a whole new light.

  5. Kelebek says:

Haha! I spotted Spidey right away. Didn't see Superman until you pointed it out. I'm sure there are a few others, like Flash Gordon in "pride. "

  6. Thank God these pictures are just the opposite of those late '60's- '70s-era mood-ring colors … yup, I'd been in my teens then when I'd first seen them …

    Blue used to mean "calm".

Maybe depression is a "deep" calm …

It's actually from npr. And it was rendered from drawings of people's feelings. http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2013/12/30/258313

  8. Emily L says:

You are not alone. That is clearly Spiderman, with no hesitation or ambiguity.

  9. is this thermal imaging scan? blood flow? this kind of chart should very clearly blurb the details of the experiment, how many people, how these "moods" were induced, was there a control group? maybe this is in the original report; i shall click on it.

  10. David says:

I'm sure spidy feels shame over his uncle's death.
