How to Love a Geeky Girl.

For most of my life, I’ve been a geek.

It’s no secret to anyone who knows me. When I was kid, I preferred staying inside and reading science books to team sports. While other girls were daydreaming about Kirk Cameron and New Kids on the Block, I was reading Stephen Hawking’s A Brief History of Time and wondering if he had a son my age.

Generally speaking, geeky girls aren’t the girls that most men lust after. It’s understandable, though—we are unique.

We require a certain person to make us tick.

If you are in love with such a girl, then you are in luck. As a whole, we are a pretty amazing group. We come in all shapes, sizes and colors and despite the stereotype, most of us do have senses of humor. It’s just a little different.

We also enjoy romance or at least I and my fellow tribe of geek girls do.

Again, while we are a very diverse group of individuals there are some things are some things we have in common:

1. We know the sexiest part of a man is the organ located between their ears.

Geek girls tend to be more forgiving when it comes to looks. That’s not to say that looks are totally insignificant, but we know that sometimes the best things come in interesting packages.

Many of us were teased as teenagers, so we know that looking only at the surface is silly and shallow.

Don’t be afraid to approach us, even if you don’t look like a GQ model.

2. We love to share information.

Sometimes it can appear we dominate or hijack conversations, but it’s only because we tend to get really excited about things. (Oh my God! Did you know hear Bill Nye on NPR?) Sometimes we can come across as rude or like a toddler who has swallowed 3 shots of espresso while on a sugar high, but we don’t mean to be that way.

If the same thing does not excite you, then tell us. We won’t get offended.

3. We can have quirky senses of humor.

I already alluded to this, but it is a common misconception that we don’t have a sense of humor. We do. Some of us have huge senses of humor. However, we expect more than just the typical joke—we want you to try a big harder. i.e., Jokes about specific rappers equals lame. A joke that Christo is your favorite rapper will make us love you forever.

4. We like sex—a lot.

We know that sexiness has little to do with looks. We know the key to good sex is knowledge of our bodies, your body, etc. Plus, if many of us aren’t getting what we want, we’ll speak up and/or do the research to find out how to remedy whatever ails us.

Most of us are amazingly comfortable talking about sex as well. Human sexuality, after all, is science.

We love science.

5. Show us some romance.

For some reason, we seem to get snubbed in the romance department more than our non-geek sisters. Many of us really love to be wined and dined. We like to know that we are appreciated. We don’t see romance as a sign of weakness or silliness. In fact, it’s quite the opposite: we can trust you enough to be romantic with you.

Therefore, be romantic.

As someone who once ran from the title of geek girl, I now embrace it and know that I am part of a very special group.

In fact, I wear it as a badge of honor and hope that those who read this and identify as one of these unique creatures will as well.

Don’t run from who you are, be proud—likewise, if you love one, embrace the quirks that makes the lady in your life so special.
