The Power of Mala Beads. ~ Michelle Belair

malabeads (1)

For the last year, I have been putting a lot of time and dedication into my journey of health, happiness, and self love.

Throughout this journey I have learned some important things about myself that have helped me sift through every aspect of my life, treasuring everything that brings me happiness and leaving behind anything that added stress and negativity. In just a year I have grown healthier and stronger, both mentally and physically.

My sense of spirituality has grown as well, something that I was not interested in in the past.

I was introduced to mala beads not long ago and instantly fell in love with the meaning behind them. Made with love and care from the seeds of the Rudraksha tree, mala beads have been worn for thousands of years in Buddhism, Hinduism, and the yoga practice. Traditionally, mala beads are prayer beads in a necklace form and are used by those who wear them to repeat a mantra. These beads have been growing in popularity in the Western world with both an aesthetic appeal as well as an intention behind wearing them.

My personal mala beads have the turquoise stone incorporated into the bracelet. Attached to my bracelet was a little bit of the meaning behind the mala bead with turquoise:

“Strengthens the whole body, promotes absorption of nutrients, tissue regeneration, and circulation. Protects from harmful environmental pollutants and poisons. Saves the wearer from problems on a journey or adventure. Destroys hatred and increases love.”

Not only am I drawn to the aesthetic look of turquoise, the meaning behind this mala bead bracelet resonated with my life. Growing up within walking distance to a large chemical plant, I liked the mention of protection from pollution. A wanderer at heart with a desire to travel the world, I was pleased to find the inclusion of journeys and adventures. Most recently in my life, my journey to health and wellness, the focus on strengthening the body seemed to fit well. Above all, I (as a social worker and lover of humanity) particularly loved the last sentence of the power behind these particular mala beads—to destroy hatred and increase love.

Mala beads can be an incredibly personal accessory for every individual who wants to be in tune with nature and their inner being.

My own mala beads are a constant reminder of how I want my life to look, with a focus on gratitude, travel, health, happiness, and radiating love and positive energy. Once you have carefully chosen the perfect mala beads for you, they can aid you in your meditation or yoga practice and help to ground yourself in stressful situations or moments of indecision. Each time you wear your mala beads, you are consciously reminding yourself of the intentions and affirmations that you have set for your life. They are truly a beautiful, peaceful, and positive addition to your healthy lifestyle.
