Diving Deep. ~ Barbara Nahmias (Poem)

underground river

I know there is

An underground river

That runs deep and still

No crests of waves

Or undertows

No rising tides

Or weary lows

Just icy blackness

Flowing

Without a destination

And yet—somehow

A knowing

A knowing how to flow

If only I could swim amongst

The blind and colorless creatures

Who seem to know the secret

Of thriving in the dark

But here I sit

Above ground

In a world of constant striving

Endless pain and fear

Suffering too hard to bear

Times of peace

So very rare

Diving deep within

I try to go beyond, beneath

Desperately

I try to reach

What only the stillness

Can teach

Love elephant and want to go steady?
