Drowning. {Poem}

Erin Stoodley/Flickr

Drowning.

I am sinking
In this sea of mattress
There is a
Deep indentation
Where you should be
A ship
Keeping me afloat
Above the
Dark
Frightening
Depthless
Ocean
It is marked where you laid
Hours ago
When you said good night
And walked out the door
You left me shipwrecked
I leapt over board
Struggling to keep the sadness away
The water fills my eyes
There is no
Sweeter
Safer
Feeling
Than laying
Next to you
Above the
Sad
Lonely
Sea underneath
And now I struggle
To stay above the surface
Gasping for breath
In between the waves
Of the
Weeping blue
It is nights like these
Where I miss you
Can you please come back
And rescue me
Sleep with me
Until the sun rises
Just above the water
And I know that the drowning is over
