China Ends Decades-Old Control over Family Rights.

China ends one-child policy

China just lifted a 26-year-old embargo limiting family size for its citizens.

What was originally purported as a measure to lessen the impact of urban overgrowth and environmental destruction has been changed to allow two children per family.

“Huang said one of the leading arguments for the one-child rule was that controlling population would result in less damage to natural resources.”

“I think that the new policy definitely wins the public’s mind.”

The end of this policy comes at a time of growing concern over a dwindling workforce.
