Why I Will Never Have A Celibate Heart. {Poem}

“Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash.” ~ Leonard Cohen

Far from the cry of eagles and owls

Far from the places where solitude rules
Away from rushing rivers and pine scented forests

I nurture a heart that is forever in love

Far from my lover and his talented hands
Far from his whispers and languidly scribbled poems
Away from the naked admiration in his eyes

I nurture a heart that is forever in love

Far from my tribe and the places they travel
Far from the light of our late evening fire
Away from the wisdom of the elders who ground me

I nurture a heart that is forever in love

My heart longs for passion, for ideas that inspire me
My heart longs for lips that awaken and burn me
My heart sings a siren call to anyone who will hear

I nurture a heart that is forever in love

I’m a hedonist who craves abandon
A sinner who seeks heaven
A lover who must be shattered
A woman who shakes convention

I nurture a heart that is forever in love

I’m an addict of the agony that my heart is wrung out with
I’m a seeker of delirium, the opium of love’s torture
My lungs hug the intimacy of forbidden sensuality

I nurture a heart that is forever in love

Don’t chide me, my darling, because I seek a hit daily
Just allow me the space to fall with each step
My heart will never be celibate
She is a hunter of devotion

I fall with each breath to the beauty of life
