Say Yes to Winging It.

Life has given me opportunity, abundance and space that I have be too sh*t scared to step into.

I have held my self back for one reason: For the longest time, I was terrified of winging it.

I needed to know as much as possible, be over-qualified and have plenty of experience before I began.

My practice these days? Saying yes, and winging it, as much as possible.

We all start where we are, and when we want to begin something new, this usually means starting at ground level. Saying yes to starting, saying yes to life—sometimes this means just winging it. Having no clue what we’re doing while being brave enough to do it anyway.

I applied for work as a virtual assistant with zero experience, because I wanted to be able to travel and live where I pleased. I submitted my writing to publications in the beginning with no website to show other work. The other morning, I was asked to be a guest on a podcast. I have zero experience with being interviewed, or public speaking.

My response: “Sure! Why not?”

This doesn’t mean I don’t get scared. Fear shows up to keep us playing it safe. By definition, playing it safe means playing small. Stepping away from risk means we step away from the possibility of abundance. Yes, sometimes we’ll try and actually just fail. The net will not appear to catch us. It might hurt when we fall, but I deeply believe that failure is not really failure, as this is how we we learn.

I spent years doing work I didn’t want to do because I lacked the she-balls to design my life in a way that I wanted. Six months ago, I decided to say “f*ck it” and say yes to opportunities that scared me.

Yes, I’m new at this.

No, I am not a wealth of wisdom.

But I do know this: I have gotten further, had more adventures, and filled my days with more joy than when I was always prepared.

Say yes to exciting opportunities you feel you have no place saying yes to. Take risks with your work, your art. Apply for jobs you want, even if you don’t think you’re qualified. Especially you, ladies. I recently read that women will apply for jobs only if they meet 100 percent of the qualifications. Men will apply for jobs when they meet only 60 percent.

A fun practice? Go on a job search website, type in your dream job, and apply for five that catch your interest.

The biggest thing I hear when I speak to professionals, entrepreneurs and creatives in all fields is that no one really knows what they’re doing when they’re taking big risks in their life. The practice of winging it is a practice of trusting ourself. Trusting that we have the ability to create our own reality and a life that we love. Trusting that we are worthy of success and abundance in all forms. Trusting that we are allowed to screw up, do it wrong and fail.

Trusting that we will be able to pick ourself up and carry on.

There is so much life waiting for us to just say yes to it.

Say yes to life.

Say yes to winging it.
