The Year of the Fire Rooster: What it Means for our Romantic (& Sex) Life.

On Saturday, January 28th, we celebrated the beginning of the Chinese New Year. 2017 is the year of the Fire Rooster.

The Chinese New Year begins on the new moon and combined with the Aquarian age we are now living in, the energy of both are amplified.

The fire rooster is a symbol of yin or female energy.

The rooster is the epitome of fidelity, meaning that the big theme in relationships this year is going to be about finding someone to settle down with—not just casually date.

Each year we have different energies and vibrations present, and this year is all about our souls searching for home. We all get to a point in our lives where casual dating no longer satisfies us, the pointless chatting, or meaningless hook-ups become nothing more than nuisances that remind us of everything we don’t want.

Being that it is also a yin year, we will be called to embrace the more feminine aspects of love and relationships as well ,including monogamy, long-term stability, and even marriage.

According to numerology, last year was a 9 year, a time of endings and of sorting through all that we have experienced so that we can learn and process our history in order to know how we want to write our own story.

2017 is a 1 year, meaning new beginnings and cycles abound and are ripe for the picking—coupling this with the energy of the Fire Rooster means that we are ready to leave behind our old worn out relationship cycles for something more healthy and stable.

“So come with me where dreams are born and time is never planned.” ~ Peter Pan

Peter Pan never wanted to grow up.

Yet it seems for many of us, not only are we ready, but we are anxious to step away from who we were so that we might embrace who we want to be.

We’re ready to grow up and we’re ready to grow up in love.

It’s scary to think of making a commitment to someone, especially when so much remains unclear, yet when we reach that point where we know that we’ve found something we won’t ever discover in another, then suddenly saying, “I do” becomes the easiest thing in the world.

We only hold back when we are unsure.

And we are only usually unsure when something is right—but scares us a little. This year the energy of the rooster will be giving us the confidence and cockiness in knowing what we want, and also exactly how to go about getting it. We will become meticulous in going over our wants and needs and any decisions made about relationships, specifically marriage, that have a positive longevity component to them.

Even for singles this year, while marriage may not end up being on the books, more long-term relationships will be—even if it’s the one with yourself.

If single, we won’t be looking for someone to fill in the gaps of our soul with shallow distractions. We will be craving intimacy, understanding, friendship and all of those qualities that make up a healthy relationship with others and with our own self.

It’s a year to finally quit playing games—and unfortunately that means in the bedroom too.

Those shallow f*ck buddy hook-ups, or friends with benefits, won’t really get the job done this year because we are looking for someone to wake up to, someone to do the dishes with, and snuggle up on the couch with.

If we do partake in any casual sex experience, we may find ourselves feeling guilty or negative afterward because even if our minds want to be doing the same ole’ thing—our souls know better.

This means that not only do we want to share our bodies with someone, but we want to share our hearts and souls too—we want to know that we can let ourselves truly be naked with someone before we actually remove our clothes.

“What we want is someone to be naked with, not only in body, but in soul.” ~ J. Iron Word

Whether we head to the altar or not in 2017, the one thing for certain is that we will all be craving more substance to our relationships. We don’t want just one night stands—we want a forever.

Sometimes making the decision to act upon our desires can be a difficult one, especially if it includes monogamy or commitment. Those words are often terrifying, especially for the ones who have tended to broken hearts.

But at other times, the possibility of letting an opportunity slip through our fingers becomes the most disturbing thought of all.

The best way to go into this year, to harness and embrace all of the powerful energy of the Fire Rooster, is to leave fear behind our doubts, worries and even our anxieties. Just because love has eluded us before doesn’t mean that it always will; it just means we needed to take the long road.

And this year is the perfect time to not only fall in love—but to have it last.

It doesn’t even matter what didn’t work before—because this is your year.

This is your year to do it right.

“When you know, you know. And when you don’t know, well, it’s because it’s not there. And you’ll find yourself looking for it in everything they do and in everything they are. The fact that you’re searching for it is your answer.” ~ Mark Groves
