To a Dear Stranger,
Although a stranger you should not be
You gave life to me.
Do you ever think of me?
As a child or the grown woman I might be?
Do not worry, I have not gone astray
A strong woman who can find her way
The greatest gift you gave to me,
Was a wonderful family at a time you could not be.
I am hoping your life has been happy too
Mine has so many stories, if only you knew.
All the dreams I want to share
Sometimes, they are almost too much to bear.
I am a mother now, would you believe?
If only you could see, but please don’t grieve
For you are always in my heart
And when I look in the mirror, I can see you
My dear mother, who gave life to me.
To a Dear Stranger
Although a stranger you will never be
You have raised me
Not once did you turn your heart from me
As a child, teenager or woman I could be
Do not worry, I have not gone astray
A strong woman who can find her way
The greatest gift you gave to me
Was a wonderful family at a time she could not be
I know I have caused heartache in your life
The stories we could share of love and strife
All the dreams we have shared
Without your love & guidance, I would not have dared
I am a mother now, much too young you feared
If only you could see, that you and her are here
For you are always in my heart
And when I look in a mirror, I can see you
My dear mother, who raised me.
Being adopted has been the biggest blessing in my life and I am to grateful to have an amazing family – biological and adoptive. Let us not be strangers in this world, let us love more.
For my beautiful, loving and inspiring mothers – Erin & Michelle
