LIFE’S PRIORITY: CAREER, RELATIONSHIP, HEALTH OR FAMILY, Which Should Come First?

Are you currently studying, working, practicing your craft, or managing a business? Is it going well? Or is the future still uncertain? Do you have a loving family you adore so much? Or are you in a vocation of positively impacting the lives of many?

Many of us are all caught up and engrossed with our day to day activities that we often overlook our current medical and psychological health. We have been busy living and trying to make our way to materialize the dreams we have for ourselves and our loved-ones that we sometimes take the “little stuff” like adequate sleep and proper diet forgranted. Those goals mostly include acquiring the material things and personal achievements that our hearts desire the most. However, sometimes, during the process of focusing on the end goal, we miss an essential aspect that can jeopardize all that we ever worked hard for, and that is our health.

Imagine 20 or 40 years from now, you already have the dream house you always wanted, with cars and bank account that can allow you to travel the world. You have a beautiful family that love you and you love more with a status that enables you to do what you are passionate to do. However, by this time, can you also imagine yourself physically active and strong? Like able to take the stairs to enjoy the view from your rooftop every sunset? Or being able to sustain hours playing with the youngsters in the family? Or the long hike on The Great Wall without losing your breath? Or able to do yoga at your 60s? If yes, then you are on the right track. However, if you’re not, then it’s about time you take a pause, assess your priorities and think about the bigger picture.

You see, whatever you decide to focus and dedicate your life on, will only be up to a certain point unless you do whatever you can do to make sure you will be there, alive and with the strength to savor it! Whether it is a missionary work to help those who are in need, humanitarian effort to liberate those who are oppressed, service to family and friends, raising children to become responsible adults, or a personal journey to self-fulfillment, it is a core value to take good care of your own health. There is no-one else in this world who will make your own healthcare a priority without an ulterior motive than yourself. Because without good health, it is such a heartbreak to only imagine the expansion of your enterprise, the places you could have explored, the people whom you could have helped and spend time with or how your children will turn out to be because you will no longer be there to actually witness it.

We only have one life. We only have this one chance to really live it. Whether we decide to dedicate it to others or to ourselves, we ought to make sure we stay at the prime of our health in order for us to eventually witness and savor the fruits of our labor firsthand.
