Have Fun With The Little Things.

Are you always hustling and bustling to get things done? Do you struggle with finding time to enjoy the little joys in life?

Playing Tourist

Following a recent Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance National Conference, I decided to take some time and play tourist for a day. I didn’t want to waste a minute of my last day in Seattle sitting in the hotel room trying to ignore the beautiful day outside while writing my weekly Snippet – there was just too much to see and so little time to see it in!

But that’s not the only way I like to take time out for the little joys in life…

AM Rituals

I am definitely an early riser who loves jumping out of bed in the morning without the help of an alarm clock. And, now that I’m running my coaching business from home, I especially love being able to wake up early without having to rush out the door and battle the traffic downtown. For that, I am truly thankful!

Every day, I make time to meditate – sometimes I don´t even get out of bed first. ? I begin my day snuggling the dogs, then tune into Abraham-Hicks for my morning meditation…talk about starting the day from a place of calm. ?

Mediation, Continued

Once I ́m up and about, I take my coffee to the patio outside where I water the plants and deadhead my roses – both of which I see as a form of meditation. (The only challenging part of this ritual is the Japanese Beetle extraction. Challenging because of how much damage these lovely little beetles do to my rose garden and, oh so satisfying when I capture the little devils and send them to a soapy grave.)

Joy of Reading

Growing up, one of my favorite things to do was read. Every summer I took part in the Summer Reading Program and read ten books or more. My love for reading continues to this day.

I don’t always do a lot of reading for pleasure, but I ́ve decided to make more time for it. Most recently, I read City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert which was fabulous! You’ve just got to read it.

For the last little bit, I´ve been reading The Nest by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney. Unfortunately, I find it easily “put-downable”. Have you had a chance to read it?

Do you have any recommendations in the fiction department? I´d love to hear!

I´m also a huge fan of Audible and I’ve recently listened to Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes and The Beautiful No by Sheri Salta. Both of these audios were read by the authors themselves and I thoroughly enjoyed them!

Not too long ago, I ordered Radical Remission-Surviving Cancer Against All Odds by Kelly A. Turner, Ph.D. and The Power of Habit-Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business by Charles Duhigg. Chances are good that I won’t enjoy reading these two books nearly as much as I did City of Girls, but I’m sure I´ll learn a ton.

Other Little Joys I Like To Make Time For

There are so many things that make life worth living.

Taking my little white doggies on a hike, playing some gin, going along with Jimmy when he does a little fishing…

And, I ́m super happy pursuing my new coaching career!

Of course, there are those things that simply need doing, like remodeling the master bath and getting new carpeting – which also means trying to keep the little white dogs from constantly getting underfoot. (Holy sh*t!)

But, to be honest, I love making a game of it and coming up with ways to enjoy those things, too!

Tell me, what little things are you making time to enjoy today?
