Proper Self-Care isn’t Just Bath Bombs and Spa Dates

The self-care movement has become a more widely discussed topic within the last few years. And although this is great, some media markets have reduced self-care to missing work, drinking wine, and avoiding responsibilities that cause them stress to maintain their mental health.

That isn’t what self-care is about.

The practice of self-care promotes mental, emotional, and physical health. Daily tasks such as brushing your teeth, taking a shower, exercising, and eating a balanced diet are forms of self-care.

It isn’t a Selfish Act.

The proper self-care routine makes you aware of what you need to feel your best. As you learn to take care of yourself, you learn how to take care of others.

It isn’t About Becoming You 2.0.

Please know that getting your hair and eyebrows done can make anyone feel like a million bucks but, it shouldn’t be the focus of your self-care practice. Spending money a copious amount of money on services or products that are supposed to make you feel a certain way doesn’t align with self-care.

Well, What is Self-care?

It’s about understanding, acknowledging, and meeting your needs. Allowing yourself to be who you are without filter, forgiving yourself when you make a mistake, treating yourself with kindness, and believing that you are enough.

By taking care of yourself, you allow space for yourself. You allow yourself to grow, heal, create and pursue endeavors that bring you joy.

How Can I Practice Proper Self-care?

  • Create a list of things that you would like to do now or in the future. For example: growing an avocado tree, trying yoga, eating lunch with an awesome friend.

or

  • Create a list of things that you no longer want to do. For example: answering business calls at night, working on the weekends, and hanging out with toxic friends.
  • Prioritize sleep.
  • Follow a healthier diet.
  • Make time to relax.
  • Take deep breaths.
  • Spend time with loved ones
