I Am That Too

“Examine the part of you that created the story and look at it with curiosity.” said Ram Dass on his guided-meditation. While I listen to it with my earphones, I feel something inside of me looking into things in a completely different manner. I started to look at all the labels, fancy names I gave to myself in order to feel respected and accepted.

He then says: “I am that too”. He means that we are everything. We are all connected. And coming back to my fancy names, all I wanted was to be respected by others. Somehow, my mind thinks that if I show my vulnerabilities, they will reject me. But then, the next thought comes to mind: “does it matter? what people do, think or say? what’s their opinion about you… does it really matter?”

Obviously, the answer is a fat and big “No”. It doesn’t. “So why are you still holding on these stupid names and fear of judgment?” It quickly popped up in my mind some childhood memories, where I was feeling sad of not having my mom’s attention or not hear a loving and supportive word coming from her.

“I am that too”, he continues and now I know. It doesn’t matter. It really doesn’t. I’m sorry my dear friends, acquaintances, relatives, parents. Partners, ex-partners, ex-coworkers. People I studied with, people I shared flat with. You can judge me, you can point fingers at me. You disapprove what I do, you reject what I say. Do what you want, say what you like, it doesn’t matter.

I spent a big part of my life caring about what you have to say about me, your opinion about my life. This never took me any further in life. So please, go ahead. Point your fingers. Because “I am that too”. If I am everything, it doesn’t matter.

I am not here to please others. To say what please your ears. To speak only what belongs to your level of understanding. I am what I am. What you do, say or think it’s not about me. It’s about you. It’s your projection of what you think people should be. It’s your projection of what you think is right. And just because you think, doesn’t mean you’re right.

Because “I am that too”.

So please, go ahead. Point your finger. I appreciate it.

Because your judgment only makes me stronger. Only makes me stick with my truth. It only makes me keep walking. It only reminds me that no one knows what I know. What my heart knows. And to you, that doesn’t matter at all.

So please, go ahead.

Because I am that too.
