The Heart is Not a Liar. (Poem)

The heart does not lie

Sometimes it whispers

Sometimes it roars

But it’s never a liar

The messages it

gives have to be

Translated by our brains

And then our mouths

And these things rely

On past emotion

Past experience

Past pain, oh god

So they take our hearts

And they put a gag on.

Or a lid. Or at least a

Little cloak to appear

Less vulnerable.

Less in love or more.

Less scared. But also

less of who we are.

That is not the hearts fault

The heart does not

Have a megaphone

The heart is not a liar.

Can you listen to yours?

What is it saying

That your anger or

Sadness is masking?

What is it saying

That would require you

To be vulnerable?

Can you be brave for it?

Brave enough to be

Vulnerable? Brave enough

To be real. Take a breath.

You are worth it, my love.
